Three-Coat Stucco Systems
Scratch coat, brown coat, finish coat. Applied at the right thickness with the right cure time between layers. The way it was meant to be done.
Acrylic & Sand Finishes
From ultra-smooth acrylic finishes to medium dash and sand textures. You tell us the look you want, we make sure it lands right.
Indoor & Outdoor Fireplaces
Whether it is inside the home or in your backyard, the finish is the same standard as any exterior stucco system we apply. You choose the texture and the look, we build it right and finish it to match.
Custom Crown Work
Custom stucco crown work for interior and exterior applications. Clean edges, consistent depth from corner to corner, and the kind of detail that sets a finished home apart from one that is simply complete.
Repair & Remediation
Cracks, delamination, moisture intrusion. We diagnose the cause first, not just patch the symptom. Repairs that hold because they address what actually failed.
The Mexhon Standard
Every sealer is chosen because it holds up. Not because it pads a margin. If it won't look right in ten years, it doesn't go on your home.
Mexhon Contracting LLC serves homeowners and builders across the greater Charleston area and surrounding Lowcountry communities. We specialize in residential and custom stucco work: new construction applications, full exterior re-stucco, repairs, and finish work that holds up in this climate for the long haul.
Stucco in the Lowcountry is its own challenge. The humidity, the salt air near the coast, and the way homes expand and contract with the heat all put demands on stucco that most northern contractors never deal with. We work in this environment every day, and we apply accordingly.
We work alongside builders and general contractors on new custom homes throughout the Charleston area. Three-coat stucco systems applied to the right substrate, with the right lath, proper weep screeds, and control joints placed where they actually need to be. The kind of work that makes the finish coat look the way the architect intended.
We are comfortable working from plans and coordinating with other trades on a jobsite. We show up when we say we will, and we don't leave a mess for the next crew.
The finish coat is what everyone sees. We offer a range of textures and systems to match what the project calls for:
Acrylic Finishes
Acrylic finish coats offer more flexibility and color retention than traditional mortar finishes. They hold up well in coastal environments and are a good fit for any project that requires a specific color or texture to be matched precisely.
Sand Finish
A timeless, fine-textured finish that works on any home and holds its character for years. Durable, clean, and one of the most consistent finishes in the trade when applied correctly.
Dash & Texture Finishes
Coarser textures applied for a bold, distinctive look. Up close the surface has a natural, layered texture. From a distance it gives the home a richness that smooth finishes cannot replicate.
Smooth Finish
An ultra-smooth, plaster-like surface for homeowners who want a cleaner, more refined look. This finish requires more skill to apply consistently and shows imperfections more readily, which is why the base coats have to be right before the finish goes on. When sealed with a high-gloss sealer, the result is a premium surface that stands out.
We do plaster work on interior walls, fireplace surrounds, and custom applications where a smooth, refined surface is the goal. Traditional plaster gives a wall a depth and solidity that drywall and paint simply cannot replicate. For clients who want something more elevated, we also apply polished plaster finishes, which produce a smooth, almost marble-like surface with natural variation in tone and sheen.
Polished plaster takes more time and skill to apply than a standard finish coat. It is built up in thin layers, each worked and burnished before the next goes on. The result is a surface that looks custom because it is. If you have seen it on a high-end interior and wondered what it was, this is likely it.
All concrete cracks. The question is what kind and why. Most cracks come from home settlement or water damage, and there is a real difference between a hairline crack and one that is letting water in. The cause could be the stucco prep phase, it could be another trade entirely. Either way, we will figure out what happened and fix it correctly.
We also handle larger remediation scopes where the stucco system has failed across a wider area. In those cases, we remove what needs to come off, address the underlying issue, and re-apply from the substrate up.
How long does stucco last in the Lowcountry?
A properly applied three-coat stucco system can last decades with minimal maintenance. The variables are the quality of the base work, how well the building was detailed for water management, and how the home moves over time. Stucco near the coast also faces salt air, which is harder on finishes. We factor all of this in during application.
Can you match existing stucco on my home?
We do our best to match texture and color on repair work. An exact match is difficult when the existing stucco has weathered over years, but we work to get as close as possible. For larger repairs, we sometimes recommend re-coating an entire wall or elevation so the patch does not stand out.
Are small stucco cracks normal?
Hairline cracks are common and usually not a cause for concern. Stucco expands and contracts with temperature and humidity, and minor surface cracks are a normal result of that movement over time. What you want to watch for are cracks that are growing, cracks near windows and doors, or anywhere you notice discoloration or soft spots around the crack. Those are signs water may be involved and worth getting looked at sooner rather than later.
Does stucco require maintenance?
Not much. A properly applied stucco system holds up well with minimal attention. Walking the exterior once a year and catching small cracks before they grow is about all it takes. If you notice anything that looks like it is getting worse, call us and we will take a look.
Can stucco be painted or recoated?
Yes. Stucco can be painted with a high-quality masonry paint, and it can also be recoated with a fresh finish coat to update the color or texture without a full tear-off. Recoating is a good option when the base is still sound but the surface has faded or worn. If you are considering either, reach out and we will let you know what makes the most sense for your situation.
