Driveways & Driveway Additions
A driveway is one of the first things people notice about your property. We design and pour driveways that hold up to daily use, look right in ten years, and add real value to your home. Not just square footage.
Custom Patios & Outdoor Spaces
The best patios get used. Weekend cookouts, fire pits, late evenings outside. We design and pour outdoor spaces that fit the way you actually want to live in your property.
Walkways & Sidewalks
A walkway connects more than two points on your property. It's what your guests walk up, what your kids run down, what ties your driveway to your front door. We pour them to match everything around them so the whole property feels like it was built with intention.
Demo & Repour
Cracked, sunken, or just not what your property deserves anymore. We take it out and replace it properly. We remove it and pour it right, so this time it stays.
Paver Patios & Walkways
Not every outdoor space calls for poured concrete. Pavers bring a natural, handcrafted feel to patios and walkways. When one shifts or cracks, you replace one piece, not the whole thing.
Built For Living
A lot of the best moments happen outside. We build the spaces where they do.
Mexhon Contracting LLC serves homeowners across the greater Charleston area and surrounding Lowcountry communities. We specialize in residential concrete work: driveways, patios, walkways, and outdoor living spaces built to hold up in this climate and look right for the long haul.
We are not the cheapest option in Charleston. We are the option you call when you want it done right the first time and don't want to think about it again for twenty years. Every job we take on carries our name, and we build accordingly.
A concrete driveway is one of the highest-value improvements you can make to a residential property. Done right, it holds up for decades, requires minimal maintenance, and adds immediate curb appeal. Done wrong, it cracks within a few seasons and becomes an eyesore that costs more to fix than it would have to build correctly.
We handle everything from new driveway installations to driveway additions, including widening an existing slab, extending to a second garage bay, or adding a turnaround. Every driveway we pour starts with the base: proper grading, compacted subgrade, and the right thickness of concrete for the load it will carry. The finish is the last decision, not the first.
We also handle full demo and repour for homeowners replacing old, cracked, or settled driveways. We remove the existing slab, haul the debris, and start fresh. Not over.
A well-built patio changes how a family uses their home. We work with homeowners in the Charleston area who are investing in their outdoor space, whether that's a large entertaining patio, a smaller backyard slab for a fire pit, a covered porch extension, or a pool deck. The goal is always the same: a space that holds up to daily use and still looks intentional years from now.
We take drainage seriously on every patio pour. Standing water is one of the most common complaints with concrete patios in the Lowcountry, and it's almost always a result of poor slope planning before the pour. We get the grade right before the first truck arrives.
On applicable projects, we also install underground drainage systems, including French drains and pipes connected to your gutters, drained to the street at the proper slope.
The finish is what you see and feel every day, and it has a bigger impact on how a property looks than most homeowners realize going in. We offer three finishes on our residential concrete work:
Broom Finish
The most common residential finish. A broomed texture is applied before the concrete sets, creating a slip-resistant surface that holds up well outdoors. Clean, classic, and works on driveways, patios, and walkways alike. When done consistently, a broom finish looks sharp and ages well.
Exposed Aggregate
A premium finish where the top layer of cement paste is removed to reveal the stone aggregate beneath. The result is a textured, natural-looking surface that hides minor wear well and adds visual character to driveways and patios. Exposed aggregate is a step up in both appearance and process, and it shows.
Tabby (Seashell Concrete)
Tabby is a Lowcountry finish with deep roots in coastal South Carolina. It incorporates oyster shells into the concrete mix, creating a surface that is uniquely local, textured, coastal in character, and immediately recognizable to anyone who knows the area. For clients who want their outdoor space to feel like it belongs in the Lowcountry, tabby is the finish that says exactly that. We take pride in doing it correctly.
Not every outdoor space calls for poured concrete. We also install brick and stone pavers for patios, walkways, and entry paths. Pavers are set on a compacted gravel and sand base. They flex slightly with ground movement rather than cracking, and individual units can be replaced without tearing out the whole surface. For clients who want the warmth of natural material or who are mixing materials across a larger outdoor space, pavers are a strong option we're experienced with.
Is tabby concrete high maintenance?
No more than standard concrete. Tabby benefits from periodic sealing every few years, depending on exposure, which protects the shell surface and keeps the finish looking clean. It is not fragile. When properly mixed and applied, tabby holds up to foot traffic, vehicle loads, and the Lowcountry climate without issue.
Do you do stamped concrete?
Not currently. We focus on broom finish, exposed aggregate, tabby, and pavers. These are finishes we know well and execute consistently. We would rather be excellent at a focused set of options than offer everything and do some of it poorly.
Do you offer competitive pricing?
We are transparent about cost and always happy to talk through a budget. We are not the lowest bid, but our pricing reflects work that is done correctly, with quality materials, by a crew that knows what they're doing. If a quote comes in higher than you expected, contact us. We would rather have an honest conversation about scope and value than lose a client to a contractor who underbids and underdelivers.
How long before I can walk or drive on the new concrete?
Generally, you can walk on new concrete within 24 to 48 hours. Driving on it requires more time. We recommend waiting at least 7 days before light vehicle traffic, and 28 days before parking heavy vehicles or equipment on it. Concrete reaches its full strength over the course of about a month. The more patient you are with it early on, the better it performs long term.
Do you install underground drainage systems?
Yes. We install French drains and underground pipe systems that connect to your gutters and drain water out to the street at the proper slope. If water is pooling around your home or finding its way somewhere it should not be, call us and we will walk through what it takes to fix it.
Can grading fix water draining toward my garage?
When we are already doing concrete work on a project, yes. Every concrete surface we pour is sloped correctly so water drains away from the structure. If grading is part of the scope, we handle it as part of the job.
Where do you serve?
We serve the full Charleston metro area and surrounding communities. Our work takes us from downtown Charleston and the coastal islands, including Kiawah Island, Seabrook Island, Isle of Palms, and Johns Island, through Mount Pleasant, Daniel Island, James Island, and West Ashley, and further out to North Charleston, Hanahan, Goose Creek, Ladson, Summerville, Moncks Corner, Jedburg, and Ridgeville. If you're in the Lowcountry, reach out and we'll let you know.
